Internet Options

ScottNET offers the following options for connecting to the internet whether you are a home user or a company, we have a solution for you:

ADSL

ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, or DSL for short) is a high-speed Internet access service that utilizes existing copper telephones lines to send and receive data at speeds that far exceed conventional dial-up modems.

ADSL uses standard telephone lines to transmit upstream and downstream data on a digital frequency, which sets these datastreams apart from the analog signals telephones and fax machines use. Because the ADSL signal is operating on a different frequency, the telephone can be used normally, even when surfing the Web with ADSL service. The only requirement will probably be inexpensive DSL filters on each phone or fax line, to remove any "white noise" on the line that might be generated from ADSL service.

ADSL service requires a Fixed Telephone line with telkom (it cannot be a prepaid line) an Internet Service provider to supply you with your ADSL account and an ADSL modem.

Please note ADSL availability is depending on Telkom and the exchange your telkom line is on.

Dial Up

Dial up Internet access is a type of internet connectivity that operates through a standard telephone line. By running the telephone line to a modem device in the personal computer, and configuring the computer to dial a specific phone number, the computer is granted Internet access.

Dial up is some what outdated and slow in comparison to ADSL and is only really used when ADSL is not available.

Diginet

A leased line connects two locations for private voice and/or data telecommunication service. Not a dedicated cable, a leased line is actually a reserved circuit between two points. Leased lines can span short or long distances. They maintain a single open circuit at all times, as opposed to traditional telephone services that reuse the same lines for many different conversations through a process called "switching."Definition: A leased line connects two locations for private voice and/or data telecommunication service. Business DSL - Static IP

This service comes bundled with 5 public static IP addresses. This is a service that runs on Internet Solutions fibre backbone and is considered a restored service. These accounts have soft caps which means when you reach your cap your internet does not get cut off completely it slows down the speed which means you can still access your emails and do basic browsing. Its best suited for businesses who want to host their own services on site. Contact us for more information.
