Cloud computing, it's a buzz word, it's a trend, it's all very cutting edge; but what is it, and how does that affect your telephones?

The cloud symbol was originally chosen for the Internet as the shape of it is constantly changing. Cloud computing is the concept of putting all the backend hardware stuff onto the Internet. Whilst the concept is kinda scary at first, it is in essence, phenomenally simplistic genius. Take away the wasted space, time, resources, insurance and effort; leverage state of the art in technology, in redundancy, in support and better yet, pay only for what you need.

Sounds good so far? But perhaps a little hazy?

Take the telephone system, that box that hangs on the wall, possibly in some server room somewhere (or maybe just by your receptionist); lifeblood of your company, the heart of communication that beats, but so many traditional problems with it.

Firstly is always the financial one, if you're not buying the hardware then the burden of getting financial approval and then locked into a long term contract. Oh, and don't forget the costs, paying for a finite resource means that almost certainly you are having to over-cater now for the possibility of growth later; and then the insurance and other hidden costs. Operationally, growth and the tie in to technology, means that your systems go through a leap every 60 months or so instead of transitioning over time.

Redundancy, in telephony? Not many companies are in the position of being able to have a redundant (standby) system on hand in case their phone system is struck by lightning/ hardware failure/ power surge/ redistribution of wealth project or any number of possible things that can and do go wrong. And service call outs? Probably no small number under your expenses each year.

Features and functionality? The PABX hanging on the wall doesn't upgrade itself. New software? Oh, another call-out. And all those features you couldn't remember the codes for, so you didn't use them? Or those that you had to call a technician out to activate?

A simple web interface that allowed you to log in to your extension and set whatever call forwarding, blocking, screening functionality would be great!

With Fat Budgie Cloud PBX you will get a simple web interface that allows you to log in to your extension and set whatever call forwarding, blocking, screening functionality that you like.

No more PBX hardware, no more financing, no more insurance, no more lightning strikes, no more expensive call outs just a cloud PBX system that grows when your company grows.

In a nutshell, the PBX world has changed, and it's hard to think of a single reason why anyone would want to buy a lump of hardware any more.
